Each time I try to burn an MP3 onto a brand new blank CD I get an error message
saying

>the media is corrupted.  I have used up three brand new blanks and the same thing

>happens to each one.  These are CDR and not RW.  I guess something is wrong with

>the computers ability to burn but what would cause this. It goes all the way through

>the process and at the very end it send the error message.

Hi Brock

Welcome aboard.

It could be that the CDs are not compatible with your writer or it could be a problem with your writer or the way your OS is set up.

First thing to do is to go into explorer, right click on the CD writer select properties then the recording tab and ucheck the "enable CD recording on this drive" option.  Restart the comp and try again.

If that doesn't work try a different make of media.  if that fails try cleaning the CD head with a cleaning disk.  If you still have problems after trying these three options come back and let us know

Thanks Graham,  Odd as it may seem the last thing you suggested worked.  I purchased one of those disks with the brushs on it and bingo it worked.  Again thanks for your reply and suggestions.  -Brock

Well I thought it was working.  As it turns out the CD burning drive will make CD-RW's quite handily but not CD-ROMs.  Each time I tried it, it ejected the disk saying I should put in a blank disk or a CD/rw that is erased.  I have been using SONY blanks and I have ruined several so the media surely isn't the problem...certainly not to look at them...they seem in mint condition.  I have this problem with Nero, HP and the software that comes with XP for burning.  I'm guessing that something in the winxp drivers is awry.  Do you see any solution short of a full reformat of the OS.  By the way, the DVD-RW's run just fine and erase and I have no problem reusing them.  I haven't tried using a dvd blank as I have none of these and would not likely have any use for them.  It seems odd that a drive would make RW's and not ROM's but that is what I seem to have.  Any ideas?  -Brock

. . . I suspect you know what's the hassle as clearly as us; you've probably got conflicting drivers trying to handle burning.

Me I'd double-check you've killed WinXP's builtin drivers: go to Administrative Tools; then Services; then right-click the IMAPI service & make sure it is disabled.

Reboot, unistall every piece of burning s/w you can see.

Reboot, open Windows Explorer at a folder containing something or other, right-click & if you have an option to burn this folder or its contents, then uninstall more thoroughly.

When you're sure the system is free of any burning s/w; reinstall (say) Nero & use it for everything.

Post with results whatever they are - it *could* be a hardware issue; but it's not likely.

Thanks for the reply.  I will be a little delayed in doing this but I do appreciate your help and I will report back.
