My CD writer isn't recognized as recordable device

Newbie--

When I go to burn, I get a message saying, "please insert disk . . ."  I have highlited my cd burner, clicked properties, and I don't see a record tab.  That tells me that my device isn't being recognized as a recordable device.  I don't know what to do?

Running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Have Memorex ModelMRX523252AJI

I have tried a couple of different burners and all have same problem.  It is a fresh install of Windows and I have no burning software installed.

What gives dudes and dudettes?  Thanks inadvance!

You need burning software in Windows 2000 [it has no inbuilt engine - thsi is a good thing].

My preferred freeware is ImgBurn - v solid & simple.

Thanks I tried your software suggestion.  I heard it burning, but I couldn't open the CD.  When I double clicked on it, it said please insert disk.  Thanks for the help.  What am I doing wrong?

Follow these links & d/l 'forceaspi' version 4.6.0

Install it as per instructions, reboot your PC, check with the included tool that you have a functional ASPI-layer.

Preferably using a RW disk, test function of your burner - please report back here - we care
