Okay I'm a first time poster but I am pretty adept at all things involving music file burning/converting etc on a computer, but recent events have totally stumped me. I just got myself a new Dell Vostro 430 with Intel Core i7 cpu, 3GB ram, Windows 7 Pro ... pretty hi-spec pc and I thought my troubles were over. However, my CD burning has become a nightmare, as all the discs I have tried to burn are burning ok, but when I play them on a normal cd player (car/hifi) there is only one track being read despite the fact that the cd display reads as individual tracks at spin-up. This track contains all the tracks, thats tracks 1 to whatever as 1 track. If I hit the next track button to select track 2 the cd player can't find anything and just bombs out. Now when I put the cd back into the pc and use an extraction program it recognises the correct number of tracks, and rips them successfully!

I have tried burning with the software I have always used, Nero 7, Ashampoo 9. I'm using TDK discs, burning at the slowest speeds, running all the test burns etc, but no joy. The settings are correct, checked checked and double checked that they are not set to Track at once, but my pile of coffee mug coasters have a welcome boost for Christmas.

Then for some unknown reason one discs of 17 tracks did burn correctly, thats 1 out of about 14 attempts.

I know this must be a hardware issue, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone esle has had the same problem and any suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers

It may well be the media you are using try using a different media.  I would also go into my explorer right click on the cd writer and disable CD burning then restart the comp.

Now trying Sony discs, with same results. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, checked firmware, uninstalled Nero 7, installed the latest Nero 10 trial version with no effect. However Windows 7 inbuilt software is burning successfully, so I'm going to stick with this method.

It simply does not make sense, but I have found a few other people on other forums reporting the same problem. I do have an opportunity next week to swap my cd drive with one from an identical pc, so that should determine if its the drive or not.

It is probably the windows inbuilt software that is causing the problem which is why I suggested disabling it in my last post.

Disabled the Win7 burner...still no joy. Nero now crashes when I try to bring files into the cd window. Used Ashampoo to create cd. Plays lovely on my pc, all tracks indexed. Pop it in the hifi plays a one long single track.  Angry

Re-enabled Win7 burner, burnt same files to cd and plays fine on hifi and pc. WTF is going on?
