Hi
A long while back I used Packet CD software that came with WinONCD 3.6 to do backups of my photos etc.
When I upgraded my computer in 2001 it came with ME which to my shame am still using today!

Rcently I dug out some of these old CDRs as I wanted to see if I could transfer them to a new CD using multisession. However while they will eventually open and I can view most of the images if the file is a TIFF rather than a JPEG it takes for ever for the computer to even display the thumbnail of it let alone open it up. Instead it tends to just reboot the computer after doing nothing for several minutes- during that time the CD Writer and hard drive lights stay lit.
Is there any way of getting these images copied to the hard drive so I can recopy them onto a new CDR? As it just "hangs" the computer and or reboots if I currently highlight them to copy/paste them to the hard drive. All these Packet CDs are the same, though it does seem that, the bigger the file size is the worse the problem.

cheers

Does ME have an inbuilt packet-writing engine? Such a thing would [obv] battle with packetCD.

Hi
I don't think so. It did need to install a driver before it would recognise the CDR as a packet CD format. It has never liked this type of disc, so I gave up viewing the images ages ago. But it would be nice if I could just copy them back to the hard drive and resave in a better way. My even older computer which had Win 95 on it gave up the ghost just before I got my current machine as otherwise I would have used that. That never had any problems with packet CDs.

cheers
