Burning time crazy slow with all programs

i have a vostro 1500 with windows xp the core 2 duo 2 gig processor and 2 gig ram, and 160 gig hard drive. i have several different burning programs like dvdFAb, dvdSHRINK, dvdDECRIPTOR, and roxio. all of them are taking about 2 hours for me to burn a disc. i used to have a dell inspirion 1505 with 1.8 gig processor and only 1 gig of ram and 80 gig hard drive and it had vista. the funny thing is that with my of 1505 it only took 30-45 minutes total to burn a dvd. i went into the device manager in my 1500 to check the settings but it is a greek to me. someone please help!! i hate taking 2+ hours just to back up a dvd.:-)

Hi - did XP Pro come preinstalled on this Vostro? . .  I thought they all had Vista on 'em . . . .

 . . . would suggest you right-click on a blank space on the taskbar [grey bar at the bottom of the screen], choose 'Task Manager' then click the 'Performance' tab & check your CPU % with no other foreground tasks running - if this is above 2-5% your should investigate what's going on . . . . update XP with all the latest Microsoft patches, then a) update your antivirus programme & run a full scan, then b) download & install Adaware [free], update it & run a full scan, then c) defragment your C: drive, then d) try a test-burn of a DVD using an A1-quality brand of DVD media [Verbatim/Yaiyo Yuden].

Post back with results or if steps a) or b) show any nasties.
