Part 3:
Creating an image file with DriveImage
Before you start anything make sure you run a disk utility such as Scandisk or Norton's DiskDoctor to repair any errors on your hard drive. For NTFS partitions use CHKDSK /F. You can also run a defragmenting utility to optimize your hard drive.

1: At the main screen click "Create Image"

2: If you have more than one hard drive, select the drive that contains the partition(s) you want to include in the image file. Click "Next"

3: Select the partition(s) you want to include in the image file or select all if you want to backup the whole drive. Click "Next"

4: Type the image file name and path in the box. You must select a drive or partition not included in your image. You can click "Browse" to select a drive or directory.
In this box you can also add comments for your image file.

[This is the browse box. You cannot create a directory from here so if you want to store your image to the "PQDI" directory make sure you create it before you start Drive Image]
Click "OK" then "Next"

5: For our purposes is safe to pick "High Compression" - it won't effect speed or performance.
Click "Next"

6: This screen displays all the information entered so far. You can safely go back and modify anything you would like by clicking the back button.
Click on "Advanced Options"

7a: Uncheck "Check for System Errors" . If you have not used a disk utility in the first step go back and do it. There is a 95% chance your restore process will fail if you don't. I have tried to do without on fresh
installs of Windows and it failed until scandisk was used.
b: Uncheck "Disable Smartsector Copying"
c: Uncheck "Verify Disk Writes"
d: Uncheck "Password Protect"
e: If you think your image is gonna be larger than 650Mb mark the "Split Image File" and enter this, or a lesser size
8: Click "OK" then "Finish" - sit back and have a coffee.
